Shivaji Jayanthi celebrated

Mangalore : Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the 387th  Jayanthi celebrations of  Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj at the Town Hall on February 19, Wednesday. The function was held under the joint auspices of the DK District Administration, Department of  Kannada and Culture and Karnataka Kshatriya Maratha Parishat.

In his address. Nalin Kumar Kateel said the life and achievements of Shivaji who  valiantly fought for his mother land is worth recollecting.  He also said  children should be enlightened on the ideals and contributions of such achievers.

A.B. Ibrahim, Deputy commissioner who presided over the function,  said  Shivaji  raised voice  in favour of the oppressed class and succeeded in his mission. He also said Shivaji was a symbol of secularism by treating all religions as equals in his kingdom.  At the same time he regretted the attempts made by some to twist facts pertaining to history.

Chandrahas Rai B, Assistant Director of the Department of Kannada and Culture,   MV Suresh Rao Karmore., District President of  Karnataka Kshatriya  Maratha Parishat,  Devoji Ram Jadhav,  President of Maratha Sangha  and others were present.
