Udupi: A bandh was called on Monday January 20 by locals and Hindu organizations in protest against the incident when a minor girl was allegedly molested by a man on Sunday night, in a bus plying towards Shirva.

Observing the bandh the protestors agitated and tried to stop vehicles near the Shirva Mosque, soon the situation worsened and a rage broke out.  The passerby informed the Shirva police.
Addressing that the matter had turned out of control the Shirva police then restored to ‘lathi charge’ and dispersed the crowd.

The tension has prevailed at Shirva while policemen have been deployed in every bend of the town.
