Mangaluru: “As the disputes concerning senior citizens are increasing year after year, there is a need to set up a separate court to redress them, opined MLC Ivan D’Souza on Monday, October 1.
Inaugurating a programme, organised to mark “World Senior Citizens Day” at Zilla Panchayath office he said,”Though respecting the elders is our duty, harassment of senior citizens is being reported in all corners of the country. As plenty of such cases are still pending before the court, a separate court is the need of the hour”, he said.
Mangaluru North MLA Dr. Y Bharath Shetty said, “Quick treatment should be given to senior citizens. Hence, a separate ward is needed to offer quick medical services to the patients in both private and government hospitals”, he said.
Advocate K Ganesh Shenoy shed light on the various legal aspects of cases, pertaining to senior citizens on the occasion. Meanwhile, a total of eleven senior citizens namely Narayan Naik of Karpe in Bantwal (social service and agriculture ), M K Raghav Gowda of Doddathota in Sullia (education and social service), Kanchana of Kulashekar, Robinson of Balmatta, K Madhav of Alape, Ananth of Subhash Nagar (sports), M Sunanda of Kadri, Ganesh Garden (social service), Shashikala Rajashekhar of Mangaladevi, Jayachandravarma Raja of Kodialbail, H Shakunthala Bhat of Haleyangadi, Vishwanath of Kodical (literature) were felicitated on the same occasion.
Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath presided over the programme. Zilla Panchayath President Meenakshi Shanthigodu, Vice President Kasthuri Panja, Deputy Director of Women and Child Welfare Department Sundar Poojary, District Legal Services Authority Chairman Mallana Gowda Patil among others were present.
