Mangalore: A series of meetings to review the functioning of various committees under the Women and Child Welfare Development was chaired by Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim at his office on Monday February 3.

Addressing the concerns over reports of violence on children and women in the society he stressed the need to create awareness on the Acts concerned to prevent such occurrences.
With reference to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, he said that authorities must ensure that boards displaying the Child Line No. 1098 are put up in all Anganavadis and schools in the district and awareness is created.
He said there is a need to sensitize the children with regard to sexual harassment and child trafficking. The police must not reveal the identities of victims of sexual harassment cases.
Meetings of the District Level Advisory Committee on implementation of Dowry Prohibition Act, District Level Co-ordination Committee on Prevention of Drug Abuse, Women and Child trafficking committee meeting, Domestic Violence Act committee meeting, Swadhara Centre and Prajna Santhwana helpline meetings were also held.
Moses Jayashekhar of DDPI; Sampath, ChildLine Convenor; Asha Nayak of CWC Chairperson; MS Patil the Chief Judicial Magistrate; Gracy Gonsalves; District Child Welfare officer; Hilda Rayappan of Prajna Counseling Centre and others participated in the meeting.
