Scribes up in arms against minister’s threat to fellow media man

Mangalore/Moodbidri: Members of the DK District Working Journalists’ Union organized a protest in the town on Saturday May 3 to condemn State Minister Abhayachandra Jain who allegedly threatened Yahodhara Bangera, a member of the Union.

In Mangalore, the journalists took out a protest and submitted a memorandum to the DC addressing  Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Governor Hamsaraj Bharadwaj seeking suitable action against the Minister. DK Working Journalists’ Union President P Harish Rai, Rama Krishna, Jitendra Kundeshawara, Ravindra Shetty and others were present.

In Moodbidri : Likewise journalists wearing black badges took out a protest march from the Press Club to the Tahsildar’s office in Moodbidri. They also forwarded a memorandum to CM and Governor through the Tahsildar. Moodbidri Working Journalists’ Union President Ashraf Walpady was present among others.

The memorandum   pointed out that the minister’s threat to the journalist over telephone stating he would get his limbs broken and make him beg alms, has come in the way of the functioning of the Press in a free and fearless atmosphere. It has also described the incident as an insult to the media.

Reporter files complaint

On Friday May 2, the Moodbidri Police have registered a complaint filed by journalist Yashodhara Bangera against Minister Abhaychandra Jain for threatening his life over the phone.

Bangera in his complaint said that on May 1 when he called up Minister Jain to know his opinion about Niddodi Thermal Project at 6 pm, Jain threatened him saying that he wouldn’t keep quite if more reports were   published.

He also warned him saying that the party workers would break his limbs and he will be forced to beg on streets.

A case has been registered at Moodbidri police station under IPC section 120 A, 351, 440 and 506 against the Minister.
