Mangalore: St Aloysius College, Mangalore in association with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai will be organizing “Nuclear Energy for a Better Society”, an awareness programme on the positive effects of nuclear energy on December 12 and 13 at 9.30 a.m. at Eric Mathias hall, St Aloysius College, Mangalore.
The Managing Director of MESCOM, M Govindappa, will inaugurate the lecture workshop at 10.00 am on Thursday, December 12. Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, Rector of St Aloysius Institutions will preside over the function. The lecture workshops will also feature talks by eminent personalities in the field of Nuclear Energy, with the keynote address on “Nuclear energy as a source of energy” to be delivered Dr Sharad Kale, head of TT and CD at BARC,Mumbai.
Other guest speakers include Dr SF D’Souza, Ex AD, BMG, BARC, Mumbai; Dr UM Mahant Shetty, Department of Radiation Oncology, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai; Dr JR Bandekar, head of Radiation Biology and Health Sciences Division, BARC, RR Sahaya, Additional Chief Engineer (CFD and FA) in the Directorate of Reactor Safety and Analysis, NPCIL and Dr TR Ganapathi, Scientific Officer (G), Head of Plant Cell Culture Technology Section, BARC. The lecture workshop will conclude with a panel discussion and interaction with the students.
This workshop seeks to elaborate on the various applications of nuclear energy in ensuring food and water security as well as healthcare. A series of competitions including quiz, debate and cartoon art on the theme of the workshop will be conducted on December 13, 2013 from 9.30 am. to 3.30 pm.
The lecture workshop is open to faculty and students of PUC/Degree/ PG from physical and biological sciences and students will get ample opportunity to interact with prominent scientists from BARC.
