Moodbidri: Santosh Das alias Ghanashyam of Odisha, the prime accused in the Jain Basadi burglary case, has been granted in the Kodyadka temple theft case.
Santosh Das who was arrested on charges of stealing valuable idols worth crores of rupees form the Siddantha Darshana Mandir of Moodbidri, was also wanted in the theft case at Kodyadka Annapoorneshwari Temple reported on June 29. He had reportedly stolen silver crowns of Anjaneya and Ganapathi, face mask and umbrella of the God. Though the police investigating the case had filed a C Report after being unable to trace the accused, the arrest of Santosh Das in the Basadi burglary case, exposed the mystery behind the Kodyadka theft case too.
The police who re-opened the case, took Das into custody and had begun investigations. However, the failure of the cops to file a charge sheet even 90 days after taking him into custody, proved beneficial to the accused. His advocate Nagesh Shetty highlighted this point during hearing at the court and applied for bail.
The Moodbidri JMFC Court has now granted Santosh Das bail. However, he will not be released as he has not secured bail in the Basadi theft case.
