Kasargod : Manjeshwar police have seized a lorry which was transporting sand unauthorisedly on February 3, Monday night. The driver and the cleaner of the lorry however gave the cops a slip.

Earlier, when excise officials tried to intercept the lorry, the  driver and the cleaner had succeeded in fleeing after assaulting them near the Manjeshwar check post.  The lorry was later seized by the police.

The injured excise staff KV Vinod (45) has been admitted to a hospital.

It is learnt, the duo had earlier told the police that they were transporting fertilizers. But police found only three bags of fertilizers while the rest of the bags contained sand.

Investigations are underway.
