Kasargod: The town police personnel have been successful in seizing hawala money amounting to nearly Rs 11 lakhs on Friday March 7. One person  has been arrested.

The arrested  has been identified as 30-year-old U A Muhammed Shariff a resident of Talangare Bangodu, who also has a house at Bedradka.

The town police personnel  in an operation under the leadership of Superintendent of Police, Thomson Jose, arrested the accused, with the help of a shadow police team.

The team was checking vehicles at Karandakkad on Friday afternoon, when it came across Rs 11 lakhs stashed in a bag being carried by Shariff in a motor bike. The entire cash was in currency notes of Rs 500 denomination.

The police, who checked cash bundles, found one note to be fake and now plan to verify whether there is counterfeit currency angle to the case.
