Mangalore: The residents of Kandak took up a hasty protest on Tuesday June 10, at MCC office after they learnt that the Mayor has opposed their memorandum and sanctioned the ice plant in the district.

The resident on May 22, had submitted a memorandum addressing the Mayor, not to permit the proposed ice plant in their area, as already the area suffers from lack of water supply. The residents pleaded that a construction of an Ice plant would make things worse.
However, despite their appeal, on Tuesday itself the district planning officer (DPO) Balakrishna Gowda and additional DPO Shivaraj visited the spot for inspection.
When the residents questioned them, the officials said that the plea has been declined and that the project has got licence.
Further when the residents demanded to see the licence, the officials could not produce it. Angered by this, the local had a fight with the officials.
ADPO Shivaraj threatened to complain to the police, on which the Pandeshwar police arrived at the spot along with MCC commissioner Ajith Hegde and Mayor Mahabala Maarla. The MCC commissioner spoke to the protestors and asked them to meet him at the MCC office and discuss the issue.
Kandak residents came to the MCC office but found that the commissioner was busy in another meeting. They grew angry at this and started to protest. The MCC commissioner then met them and asked them to give a written complaint.
It is suspected that corporator Azeez Kudroli has planned and infuriated the residents against the project.
However the MCC commissioner restored and accepted the complaints from both sides, Kandak residents and the ADPO.
