Bantwal: Residents of Bantwal Town Municipal Council beware. The TMC has decided to slam Rs 200 as per for defecating in open.
The decision in this regard was taken during the Bantwal TMC meet held with President Ramakrishna Alva in chair.
In the past, the TMC had resolved to make Bantwal town an open defecation-free town and the penalty now comes in the direction of achieving the goal.
The houses which do not still have their own toilet will have to apply for the funds from the TMC within a week.
All in all, the TMC wants an open defecation-free Bantwal Town by May end.
TMC Member Chanchalakshi, speaking during the meeting said that while impressing upon the local residents the need for using toilet can be easy, tackling the migrant workers who have camped on the bank of river Nethravathi, defecting in open and then polluting the river is a difficult task.
Chief Officer Sudhakar said that he had visited the spot and even warned the migrant workers, close on the heels of some newspapers highlighting the issue, but the migrant workers have refused to change.
TMC to be upgraded:
In the direction of upgrading the TMC to City Municipal council, Narikombu, Amtadi, Golthamajalu, Panjikallu, Navoor GP needs to be merged with the Bantwal TMC, survey for which has been conducted and a blueprint has been made.
With this, the population of the region can be shown at 53,000 and thus a recommendation for the upgrade can be made to the government, the house was told.
