Renowned journalist, social worker Agnel Rodrigues no more

Mangaluru: Renowned journalist and social worker Agnel Rodrigues passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, June 26.

According to family sources, he breathed his last at a private hospital. He leaves behind his wife and two sons.

Agnel Rodrigues, aged 56, a resident of Bejai, was the Managing Director of English news channel Coastal Times for the last 10 years and was the source of inspiration behind ‘Agnel Adventure’, a firm he established on his own. He had played a vital role in creating public awareness on traffic rules through a program titled ‘Reverse Drive’.

He had shared screen space with Kannada matinee idol Dr Rajkumar. He was a part of many Tulu films which include blockbuster Chaali Polilu, Madime, Oriyordari Asal, Namma Kudla and Telikida Bolli. He served as the public relations officer of Lions club, Secretary of Mangaluru Press Club and an executive committee member of Dakshina Kannada working journalists’ association.

He was the recipient of Konkani Sahithya Academy award and District level Rajyotsava Award in recognition of his work in the field of journalism and social service.

Dakshina Kannada working journalists’ Association, District Patrika Bhavan trust and Press club have expressed their condolences to the bereaved family.
