Mulki:  Residents of the town  have  staged a protest  against the release of drainage water from a residential complex at Odeyarabettu in Kolachikambla straight into a storm water drain, leaving  the entire area stinking.

On June 21, Saturday night, the residents, unable to bear the stink, gathered in front of the  complex and even  filled soil into the drainage outlet of the  residential complex as a mark of protest. They have threatened to intensify their protest if the panchayat failed to act.

They said though most of the housing complexes in the area have installed sinking pits, only one of them  Agraja  apartments of Bappanadu Residency had the Sewage Treatment Plant and was releasing waste water into the storm water drain. Even the sinking pits of other residential complexes have contaminated well waters, they alleged.

The residents further said the Mulki Town Panchayt’s failure to make suitable arrangements despite collecting  fees in this regard was the main reason for the problem.
