Moodbidri : Haven’t our local administrative bodies learnt a lesson from the Bijapur borewell tragedy that snuffed away the life of a four year old girl? Well, it seems not. One classic example is that of this open borewell located close by an Anganavadi centre in Kallamundkur village. This however, is not the only open bore well in the village and villagers point out that there are a few more.

A borewell drilled near the gram panchayat office a few years ago, was left wide open as it was dry. Even an Anganvadi centre is located nearby and children walk past this borewell. When repeated appeals of the locals to the Panchayat to close this borewell went in vain, the villagers have covered it with a stone.Similar is the case with a borewell at the five cents colony at Nalkemar.
The villagers hope that the panchayat would rise to the occasion and take early steps to cover or close the open borewells which are rendered unused.
