Mangalore: The distressed family members of Ranjitha, who was allegedly stabbed to death by Yogesh on Wednesday November 27, have insisted the police to arrest Yogesh’s entire family, Ranjitha’s family along with leaders of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) and Jaya Karnataka staged a protest outside SP’s office here on Thursday November 28.

In their demand they have urged the police that they desire an immediate arrest of Yogesh as well as his family, and issued a deadline of 24 hours to the police.

As per the family, Ranjitha had begged the SP for police protection from Yogesh as she could not even go to college in peace because of him wherein the SP, had assured her that they would take action; still he was only left with a warning, agitating about the inefficiency of police they demanded a suspension of the Malpe SI Jayant. Addition to it, a week ago the family had also written to the DC complaining against the youth but in vain.

The protestors alleged that a local gram panchayat member was putting pressure on police to drop the case and also issuing threats to the girl’s family for complaining against the absconding youth.

The DSS Udupi district convener Ramesh Kotian said, “Malpe is a sensitive area and instead of deploying fearless and duty-conscious police personnel, a person who has ‘blood pressure and sugar problems and who easily bogs down under pressure’ was deputed as sub-inspector.”

The protestors accused that a back hand political pressure is been used due to which the youth’s uncle Rajkumar has been released youth’s within a day of taking him into custody, as he complained of low blood pressure. They said, “The entire family should be arrested as they did not do anything to control the youth despite giving assurances to the police.”

DSS state convener M Devadas said, “A memorandum has been given to the SP demanding immediate arrest of Yogesh. The memorandum also demanded that the government give compensation of Rs 10lakh to the family as they had high hopes from the deceased girl to support the family.”

The DSS held police failure responsible for the incident and protested mainly against Malpe SI, SP and the DC. They gave the police a deadline of 24 hours to nab Yogesh, failing which they would exaggerate their protest.

SP Dr Boralingaiah who arrived at the spot assured that absconding youth would be arrested and informed that they have already made three teams to find the culprit Yogesh.
