Mysore : Opposition Congress corporators of Mysore staged a dharna in the well of the House on November 28, Thursday alleging that the roads of the city are still in a sorry state despite sanction of Rs 19 crore from the Chief Minster’s Fund for road works prior to Dasara festivities.
The Corporators who protested at the Nalvady Krishnaraja Wodeyar meeting hall of the Mysore City Corporation were heard shouting slogans like ‘ close potholes.’
As soon as the meeting began, corporator D Nagabhushan raised the issue and alleged that the ruling BJP and JD(S) corporators had misused the funds released from the CM’s fund for road repair. The potholes were filled merely as an eye wash while no other works were taken up, he alleged. All the22 Congress corporators namely Manjula Manasa, Ayub Khan, Sunil Kumar Pushpalatha Chikkannegowda, Umamani Madegowda, Prashanth, Rajalakshmi, Jagadish supported Nagegowda and boycotted the meeting to stage a dharna. The meeting had to be adjourned following the pandemonium.
Later, V Ramprasad, President of the Standing Committee on Development, said a proposal for repair of roads at a cost of Rs 3.5 crores has already placed forth the DC and is awaiting his approval. He said a delegation would be taken to the DC once again seeking permission to invite tenders for the works.
The meeting also deliberated on various issues like solid waste management and construction of houses for economically weaker sections.
Mayor Rajeshwari Somu, Deputy Mayor Shailendra, Commissioner PG Ramesh and others were present.
