Ramanath Rai inaugurates new police station in Bellare

Sullia: It is time to teach a lesson to those taking law into their hands, said District in-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai. He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating new police station in Bellare in Sullia taluk.
“Today the police department not only needs to maintain law and order but a greater responsibility to listen, respond to the grievances of the public and ensure peace in the society,” he said adding that there is need to look at each and every person equally so as to retain and restore the faith of people on the system. He said that the police must be stern whenever there is attack on weaker sections of the society.

Chief Whip, Ivan Dsouza, who was the chief guest, said, “Police department is one of the basic needs of the public. Hence, police officials must be people-friendly. In order to fill the vacant posts in the department, the state government has taken action. Both police and the public should have a cordial relationship.”

Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty presided over the function and said, “When everyone does their respective duties, problems decrease in the society. Police officers should not bow down to anyone and they should work freely without any pressure. They should not protect the accused and innocents should not be punished. Police officials must ensure safety to all,” she said.

State social welfare board president Divya Prabha Chilthadka, taluk panchayath president Chaniya Kalthadka, Bellare gram panchayath president Shakuntala Nagaraj, Western Range IGP J Arun Chakravarthy, Puttur assistant commissioner Dr Rajendra, SP Bhushan Gulabrao, Puttur ASP Rishyanth were present.

Western Range IGP Arun Chakravarthy said that importance has been given to increase beat system in the Western Range especially in the villages thereby ensure peace in the region. “We will also do utmost utilization of the available staff,” he said.

Sullia MLA S Angara’s absence who was supposed to be the president of the function raised eyebrows though he was in the constituency to attend the Independence Day programme. Later Shakuntala Shetty presided over the function.
