Mangalore:The KSRTC  has come under fire for charging more from passengers during festive season. On November 4, Monday night, Rama Sene staged a protest at the KSRTC bus stand at Bejai in Mangalore in protest against the KSRTC decision.

The agitators strongly resented the collection of 20 per cent over and above the actual  fares, whenever the KSRTC introduces additional buses on  routes like Mangalore to Bangalore where there is heavy rush of passengers.

The Barke police who rushed to the spot dispersed the crowd which was protesting right inside the bus stand premises.

The protestors also submitted a memorandum to the KSRTC authorities with a request against increasing fares during festive season. The KSRTC depot manager later assured to look into the problems faced by passengers due to higher fares.

Speaking to media men on the occasion, Prasad Attavar, Rama Sene leader  who led the protest, said though it was appreciable on the part of the KSRTC to introduce additional buses during Deepavali, charging 20 per cent  over and above the actual fare is not acceptable. “Isn’t the government ashamed to  burden the passengers? How can a common man afford  it?” he questioned and warned that the Rama Sene would intensify its protest if the KSRTC continues the practice.
