Bangalore: In what has come as a shocker, the National Investigation Agency officials have seized a whopping Rs 1.14 crores from the account of a Bangalore based businessman who hails from Manipur. The cash, according to the NIA is the investment of proceeds of terrorism in the real estate market in the state capital. This is believed to be the biggest haul of “terror”money in the nation.
The NIA could track the bank account of the businessman in the wake of the arrest of N Shanti Meitei said to be the General Secretary of the Peoples Revolutionary party of Kangleipak-the United Peoples Party of Kangleipak (Prepak-UPPK), a banned terror outfit of Manipur. The arrest was made last year. Interrogations of Meitei had revealed that his group had invested funds in the real estate sector of Bangalore and Guwahati.
The arrested businessman is learnt to have had business in Manipur in the past. It is learnt, Shanti Meitei had given the cash of Rs 1.14 crore to the Bangalore businessman last year to invest in real estate and that the former had deposited it in a State Bank of India branch in Bangalore. The cash was seized with due permission of Ministry of Home Affairs.
However, the identity of the arrested businessman has not been disclosed. The arrests were made by NIA team from Guwahati.
A case has been registered under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 121 (waging war against country), 121A (conspiracy to wage war against country), 386 (extortion), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery), 471 (using forged document as genuine) of IPC and Sections 17, 18 and 20 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
