Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada Congress Minority Wing has welcomed the state government’s move to handover Ahmed Qureshi assault case to CID for an impartial enquiry.

Addressing the media, Minority Wing members said, “Truth will emerge out of CID probe and guilty will be ultimately punished in deliverance of justice.”

Ministers and members of legislature from the DK region had apprised the state chief minister to hand over the case to CID considering its sensitivity. Accordingly, Siddaramaiah recommended CID enquiry, minority wing members said.

Off late diverse reports appeared in the media, aimed at tarnishing the image of elected representatives including ministers and MLA from DK region. The government has taken several steps for the development of minorities in the recent past and the budgetary allocation made by the CM towards minorities explains the Congress government’s stand, explained members supporting the government.

They listed various minority welfare schemes announced by the Congress government and the allocations made in the budget for the development of minorities.

In the end, they specially thanked ministers Ramanath Rai and U T Khadar, for giving a thrust to minority welfare development in the district.

It may be recalled that the protest staged by the PFI members in Mangaluru few days ago, turned ugly when the police resorted to wielding lathi at them. They were seeking justice for Ahmed Qureshi, a painter from Surathkal, who the protesters said was “unlawfully” assaulted by the police, which resulted in serious injuries to his body.

He was admitted to the hospital later and the city police commissioner Chandrashekar had allayed fears over his heath condition in a recent press conference.

The case has taken a twist with few alleging PFI actions are aimed at preventing an imminent ban on the organisation where as PFI activists allege of massive cover up by police department to save the cops involved in the assault of Qureshi.

One has to wait for the CID to complete investigations and submit a report to know the truth behind the incidents.
