Prisoner Dies by Suicide in Wenlock Hospital

Mangaluru: An under-trial prisoner allegedly died by suicide in the wee hours Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Muhammad Noufal, 26 , a resident of Kadurgodu, Kerela.

The accused was in judicial custody, said the officials.

Officials said that he was in judicial custody in a case since 2022. He was admitted multiple times due to complaint of mental depression to Jail Ward of Wenlock Hospital, and was most recently admitted on April 25.

“Today while being in the ward in judicial custody, along with other inmates, he died by suicide. All efforts were made to save him by guards on duty and paramedical staff, however he died,” said the officials.

A case has been registered in this regard in South Police Station.
