“Perla Devaloke” murder case : Court commutes life imprisonment

Kasargod: The man convicted in the thrilling “Perla Devaloke” double murder case that was solved after 19 years, was convicted by the police on Tuesday, November 19, and the verdict was given on Thursday, November 21, the additional district and session court II has sentenced him to life imprisonment.

The couple, Krishna Bhat along with his wife was murdered on October 9 in 1993. Police had alleged Imam Husain of Shimoga Sagar, who is an infamous black magician, was accused in the case but could not trace him for almost 19 years.

The verdict was delivered by Judge Balan, he charged with double murder, and ordered a life imprisonment along with a penalty of Rs 1.5 lac which will be payable by Imam to the couple’s three sons.

On the other hand, the culprit Imam pleaded the Judge during the hearing for mercy as he had six children out of which five were girls and lived in a rented house.

The investigating team, unable to find the accused, had given up the search. The Badiadka police had investigated the incident in the beginning but made no progress. Though the search continued at a fast pace, Hussain could not be traced.

The case was taken over by the crime branch in 2008 which gathered information on the movements of the accused. The accused, however used to get information on police raids in advance which enabled him to hide in different places under different disguises.

The special appointed police, of Bangalore crime branch at Nela Mangala succeeded in arresting the culprit on April 20, 2012 who was produced in the district additional court (2) today. The court has declared him as the culprit and he will be convicted on November 21.

The case was solved as it had 39 witnesses to authenticate that the crime was done by Imam Husain, thus justifying life imprisonment.

The public prosecutor, MS Thomas D’souza was present in the court. The three sons of the deceased couple Muralikrishna, Niranjan and Sudarshan were present in the court to hear the verdict.
