Udupi :Pejawar seer Sri  Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji will not be opting for the traditional Palanquin Procession during this year’s Paryaya. Instead of sitting on a palanquin carried by people, the seer has said he will sit on a palanquin which is carried in a vehicle.

The seer’s decision comes in the wake of the opposition to the practice of sitting in palanquins carried by people. As is the tradition in Udupi, the palanquins in which the seers are seated are carried by members of the Mogaveera community.

The Pejawar seer has said the swamijis of Kaniyoor and Admar Mutts too have agreed with him and have decided to shun the traditional system of sitting in palanquins carried by people. Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji has however said he would not like to impose his decision on other seers of Udupi Ashta Mutts.
