Land acquisition hinders Thumbay dam construction work : Rai

Mangalore :As the process of land acquisition around the dam would be delayed,Minister B Ramanath Rai the district-in-charge of Dakshina Kannada has urged the district authorities to find solutions to increase the storage capacity of the newly constructed second vented dam at Thumbay.

He said that the land acquisition process could be delayed as the Land Acquisition Act 2013 would be enforced from January 1 in a review meeting held  at Mangalore City Corporation limits here on Tuesday regarding the progress of various developmental works.

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim confirmed that the MCC had not yet started the process of land acquisition for the second vented dam and after January 1, it would become nearly impossible.

The Executive Engineer in charge of the Thumbay vented dam work said that the civil work of the vented dam will be completed by May 2014.

MLA J R Lobo also directed the authorities to find alternate methods in order to increase the water storage capacity in the dam, without acquiring the land.
