Panchayat Raj Amendment Bill destructive : DVS

Kundapur : BJP National Vice President and former chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda has described the Karnataka Panchayat Raj(Amendment) Bill-2013 as destructive.

He was leading a protest organised by BJP gram panchayat members of Kundapur  in front of the Kundapur  Panchayat office on July 1, Monday in protest against the amended bill. Continuing, Gowda said the amended bill would come in the way of the decentralization of power. He charged the Congress government of trying to implement anti-people policies from day one.

Gowda also stated that the amended bill would   give the regional commissioners the power to disqualify gram panchayat presidents who fail to convene  at least two gram sabhas  twice a year.

He called upon all gram panchayat members to resort to a state wide protest against the amended Bill. Gowda further said the BJP would not allow the  Bill which has been passed in the assembly, to be passed in the Legislative Council.

Several BJP leaders including former minister Kota Srinivas Poojari, District BJP  President Udaykumar Shetty, Kishore Kumar and  Tingale Vikramarjuna Hegde  took part in the protest programme.
