Mangalore: The private bus employees have decided to go on a day long strike on July 17th. These are the employees of both city as well as service buses from the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
They are observing this strike to protest against the bus owners who have failed to meet their demand for job security.The employess association have also gone ahead and said that if their demands are not met by given date, then they may on a indefinate strike.
In an meeting of Dakshina Kannada District Employees Association, the employees have demanded to put an end to the practice of exploitating as well as inducing pressure on drivers and conductors in regards to the daily collection and the practice of the Regional Transport Authority of issuing permits to more than one bus on the same route with similar timings.
The other demands of the workers are , to take action against bus owners for permitting unlicensed drivers and conductors and strictly following the guidelines provided by the labour department and laws on the subject.
The meeting was presided over by Ivan Dsouza, President of Dakshina Kannada Karmika Parishat. It was decided to hand over memorandums on the subject to the Labour Minister and Deputy Commissioners of both the districts.
