Mangalore: An Organic farmer-consumer forum organized “Swavalambi sante” (independent-market), with an aim to augment the development of the domestic organic market in the city.
The aim of the project – “Swavalambi sante” is to enhance the spread of organic farms and give an opportunity to organic farmers to create awareness and build a customer base for their produce.
A. Krishna Rao, president of the Organic farmer-consumer forum on Sunday October 26, when the first “Swavalambi sante” was held, said, “earlier 14 exhibitions of organic vegetables and homemade items had been held in the city to a rousing response, thus the market will now be held at least once a month”.
Further, Rao informed, that nine sponsors have come forward to host the market for a day in different areas. The schedule till June had been fixed.
S Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of Dakshina Kannada district unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat the market will be conducted for a week each month in front of Sahitya Kendra, he added.
Meanwhile, between October 26 and June 21, 2015, the Swavalambi sante will travel across the city.
On October 26, the market will be held at P.M. Road; November 2, ‘Manju Prasad’, Mallika Layout, Kadri; December 7, Vedam Ayurveda Hospital Road, Pandeshwar; January 4, ‘Swami Kripa’, Kadri Kambala Road; February 8, Shri Sharada Vidyalaya, Kodialbail; March 8, Dattanagar, Shaktinagar; April 19, ‘Taripadi’, Sri Devi College Road, Bejai; May 17, Shri Ramakrishna Bhajana Mandir, Bavitagudde; June 21, Sharavu Ganapati Temple road.
