Bangalore: It is learnt that over 4,000 government doctors have decided to submit their resignations  en masse on Monday, demanding higher pay and filling of vacant posts, among others, with some relief to the government and the public – they will continue to work for a month after the submission.

T.A. Veerabhadraiah, president of the Karnataka State Government Medical Officers’ Association, however, said doctors would work for a month after submitting resignation. A general body meeting of the association being held on Monday will decide the next course of action of the doctors.

Medical services are bound to be affected at least partially on Monday because the association has decided that one doctor in every taluk hospital and general hospital each will be staying back to attend to emergency patients.

The government meanwhile has said that people can reach the health helpline, 104, for any emergency.

The Bangalore City Police has decided to enforce section 144 from 6 a.m. on Monday till midnight in a radius of 1 kilometre around the Department of Health and Family Welfare near Anand Rao Circle and 500 metres around the State Institute of Health and Family Welfare in K.P. Agrahara to maintain law and order.
