Mangalore: The government will not implement Niddodi thermal power project, which requires nearly 1,000 acres of land at Niddodi village in Moodbidri said B Ramanath Rai, Minister for forest, environment and ecology here on Tuesday May 6.

As there are objections from Villagers in Niddodi, Yedapaduv, Nirude, Puttige, Kateel, Mucchuru, Padu Perar, Mudu Perar and Thenka Yedapadavu to the project as it may cost their agricultural land, it would not be implemented.
Though the government had written to the Union energy ministry offering land for the setting up of 4,000 mw ultra mega power project in 2013, project would not be implemented, he said.
Neither state government will set up power project in Niddodi nor would the central government go ahead with the project without the state’s consent. The proposal to set up a thermal power project at Niddodi was mooted in 2006 by the BJP government. The same was mentioned in the budget presented by chief minister Siddaramaiah too. However, now the state government is not going ahead with the project, he said.
