Bangalore: Kannada Chaluvali leader Vatal Nagaraj has said that the ruling of the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court which states that Kannada medium of instruction in primary education is not mandatory, cannot be acceptable.

Responding to the Supreme Court verdict, he urged the Chief Minister to immediately convene a meeting of writers and leaders of pro-Kannada organisations to discuss the issue and the future course of action.

Nagaraj said the Apex Court by stating that Kannada medium is not mandatory has sidelined the objective of formation of states based on regional languages.  Why this discrimination in Karnataka when all other states offer education in mother tongue, he questioned. He demanded that a review petition should be filed by the state government before the Supreme court and an able advocate appointed to fight the case.
