Sullia: The entire district is reeling under drought-like situation and even as every citizen of the district is apprehensive about the proposed Yettinahole project, which proposes to lift water from river Nethravathi to feed water to dry districts of the state, District in-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai has said that there is no connection between the existing water scarcity in the district and Yettinahole project.

The Mangaluru City Corporation has announced that the water available at present is just enough for a week or so as the main source of water for the region, river Netrhavathi has dried up.

But, speaking to reporters in Sullia, Rai said that it is only a fear of the people that Yettinahole will further worsen the situation.

“The drought-like situation is due to depleting underground water table. Meetings have been called in every taluk to discuss over the ways to mitigate the water problems. A meeting will be convened in Sullia on May 3,” he said vouching for Paschima Vahini Project.
