Moodbidri :The failure of the elected representatives to come out with a clear-cut stance on the proposed Niddodi thermal power project came under criticism from eminent consumer activist and Dean of the Research Department at Gujarat University Dr Ravindranath Shanbhogue.
He was speaking at an awareness meeting on the proposed 4000 mw ultra mega thermal power plant proposed at Niddodi at the Brahmashree Guru Narayana Samaja Seva Sangha on September 29, Sunday. The programme was organised by the Mathru Bhoomi Samrakshana Samithi.
Continuing, Dr Shanbhogue said the project can be dropped any moment if the elected representatives are determined and have the will power. He also questioned why the authorities chose a green belt area rather than a barren area to come up with such hazardous project.
Dr Shanbhogue further urged the authorities to visit Niddodi and interact with the people and clear their doubts.
A power point presentation made by Dr Shanbhogue on the impact of the UPCL, Raichur and other thermal plants on surrounding areas, left the audience aghast.
Among others present on the occasion were Alphonse D’Souza, President of Mathru Bhoomi Samrakshana Samithi, Kiran Manjanabailu, its Convenor and Vijaykumar Hegde, Vice President of State Raitha Sangha.
