Mangalore : “ The Netravathi River Diversion Project will be implemented only after a thorough study of the pros and cons of the project,” clarified Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda.
He was speaking to reporters after participating in a tea party at the Kalladka residence of District BJP President Padmanabha Kottari, enroute Puttur to cast his vote for the MLC election on Sunday.
“The Netravathi River Diversion Project would be implemented in such a way that it does not cause harm to the Western Ghats and people of the district. There is no haste in implementing the project. The final decision will be taken only after scrutinizing the report. Latest technology can help in diverting the river water that joins the sea. If it comes to light that the implementation of the project would have an adverse effect on the three coastal districts as well as the forest resources and environment of Western Ghats, then it will be dropped.
The CM further said the Paschima Vahini project will be implemented as per the announcement in the budget to find a permanent solution to the drinking water problem in the three coastal districts. The works will be taken up soon, he added.
