Mangalore:Saroja (26) of Horale near Shringeri who had remained behind bars after being convicted for being involved in Naxala activities, was released from prison on September 25, Wednesday. Earlier, the Udupi District and Sessions Court absolved her of the last case pending settlement against her.
Saroja who was visibly pleased on her release on Wednesday evening, left to her native place with her husband Suresh Naik and brother Uday who were waiting for her. Earlier speaking to media men present outside the prison, Saroja said she was happy over her release and informed that she would continue to fight injustice.
The last case in which she was acquitted was pertaining to an incident that took place on February 27, 2006. The court absolved her on the grounds that the charges against her could not be proved.
The case was pertaining to an incident wherein Saroja was accused of making a forcible entry into the house of Sadananda alias Kutti Shetty of Mutlupady in Ajekar village of Karkala and then pasting posters, threatening the occupants of the house. She was also charged with torching a bike parked outside the house.
In all there were 22 cases against Saroja in different police station limits. She was absolved of charges in 20 cases and punished in two cases and has completed two years or imprisonment in a murder attempt case and three and a half years of jail in another case reported from Barkana.
