Mangaluru Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has taken a significant step towards improving hygiene standards in schools around its premises. With a total investment of Rs 23.3 lakh, MRPL has sponsored the installation of water purifiers and provided napkin-burning incinerators to various schools and PU colleges.
Water Purifiers Installed in 36 Schools
In a move aimed at ensuring clean drinking water for students, MRPL has installed water purifiers worth Rs 16.7 lakh in 36 schools located in Thokur, Jokatte, Ucchilagudde, Madhya, and other areas. This initiative is set to benefit nearly 5,000 students, addressing a pressing need for pure drinking water in these educational institutions.
Napkin-Burning Incinerators Provided to 48 Govt Schools and PU Colleges
Recognizing the importance of menstrual hygiene, MRPL has extended its support by providing napkin-burning incinerators to 48 government schools and PU colleges. With an additional investment of Rs 6.6 lakh, this initiative aims to benefit 2,341 girls studying in these institutions. The incinerators have been distributed across various locations including Gandhinagar, Kuthethur, Jokatte, Kenjar, Kasaba, Borugudde, and Katipalla.
Arogya Samrakshan: MRPL’s CSR Initiative
These efforts fall under MRPL’s flagship CSR initiative, Arogya Samrakshan, which focuses on addressing healthcare-related issues in government schools. Rudolph Noronha, General Manager of Corporate Communications at MRPL, emphasized the importance of identifying and tackling issues such as access to clean water and menstrual hygiene facilities in schools.
Commitment to Health and Hygiene
Krishna Hegde, General Manager of HR at MRPL, reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting the health and hygiene needs of students. He emphasized that these efforts are crucial for enabling children in government schools to excel academically. The project was steered by Manoj Kumar, Chief General Manager at MRPL, reflecting the company’s dedication to community welfare.
