Mangalore : Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas M Veerappa Moily has assured to take steps to provide improved amenities and better facilities for the fisher folk at the Malpe fisheries port.
He gave this assurance to Karnataka Urban Development Minister Vinaykumar Sorake and Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj who met him at New Delhi on August 26, Monday. The two drew the attention of the Union Minister towards the several works that need to be taken up at Malpe port on a priority basis.
Responding to the appeal, the Union Minister has asked the Bharath Petroleum Corporation Limited to take up some projects in Malpe Fisheries Port as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
Some of the proposed projects to be taken up under this are construction of a rest room for fisherwomen at the port at a cost of Rs 20 lakhs, installation of hi-mast lights by spending Rs 16 lakhs and Rs 20 lakhs for floored tiles for the fish auctioning area at the port.
Pramod Madhwaraj, Udupi Legislator has thanked Moily for heeding to the appeal of the fishermen.
