Major fraud case : Cops book five persons

Mangalore :  Pandeshwar police have registered cases against five persons on August 27, Tuesday on the basis  of a complaint of cheating lodged against them. It is learnt, the accused have cheated several persons of over Rs 2 crores.

Over 15 persons have lodged a complaint against Khatija alias Parveen alias Pommi of Attavar Kaprigudde, her husband Haneef, brother Imran, driver Haneef alias Katte Haneef and Mustafa of Uppinangady.

It  is learnt  Poornima of Uppala and Amina had lent Rs 55 lakhs and Rs 1.5 crores to  the first two accused for fish trade and land purchase, in exchange for blank cheques.  It is leant, the amount was collected from over 15 persons of Manjeshwar, Kunjattur, Hosangady, Uppala and Posodu areas. The accused had gained the confidence of the people by returning Rs 2 lakhs  twice initially. One of the  victims Udaya said this  made them have confidence in the two.

The  victims had initially lodged complaint with Pandeshwar police and had later approached the Commissioner when no action followed. The Commissioner had directed the CCB Police to probe the case.
