Mangalore: In the district Youth Congress election which was held on Friday January 10, Mithun Rai was chosen the President for the second consecutive term.The results brought about a mixed reaction within the party members as the Youth Congress members were involved in a fight soon after the declaration of result.







Eight candidates had stood for election and Mithun Rai won the maximum number of 534 votes. Luqman garnered 252 votes, Nemiraj Shetty 185, Devikiran 100, Umar Farooq 85, Srihari 54, Bhoomi Ramachandra 42 and Mohammed Sadiq secured 33 votes.
But just after the results were declared a fight erupted between the winners and losers with the members who lost demanding recounting. The fight took an ugly turn and police had to intervene to bring the situation under control.
In the election to the assembly constituency units of the party, Girish Alva was elected from Mangalore north, Chandrahasa from Moodbidri, Merryl Rego from Mangalore south, Mohammed Wahab from Sullia, Arshad from Puttur, Prashanth from Bantwal and Nazar from Mangalore.
