Newskarnataka – Bantwal

Bantwal: Trees and plants on a five acre land were destroyed in a fire in Acacia forest area of Ananthady village on February 14, Friday. It is suspected that the fire was the result of handiwork of some miscreants.

The fire which was first noticed on Friday evening resulted in anxious moments in the area for some time with thick clouds of smoke pervading the sky. Hundreds of people who had arrived for the Ananthady Mechchi fair too were in panic.  Later the fire service personnel from Bantwal  and Puttur rushed to the spot and helped in putting out the fire.

As the fire service vehicles could not enter the forest area, the fire service men had to go by foot and engage in the fire fighting operations. Hundreds of villagers too lent a helping hand.

Ramesh, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Sunder, A Lokesh, Fire Service Officers of Bantwal and Puttur respectively and several others were part of the operation.
