Mangalore: Officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport who detected another case of attempted smuggling, have seized gold weighing 932.500 grams on Friday February 14.



The gold was in the form of sheets hidden in the base of trolley bags of two passengers who arrived by Air India Express flight from Dubai.
The officers seized two gold sheets, totally weighing 466 grams and valued at Rs 14,09,650 concealed in the base of a brown coloured rexine trolley bags belonging to passenger Shereef Abdulkareem, a resident of Thekkil, Kasaragod. He had arrived at Mangalore International Airport on Friday at 5.30 pm by Air India Express fight IX384 from Dubai.
Whereas in another case reported on the same day, the officers seized two gold sheets, totally weighing 466.500 grams and valued at Rs 14, 11,162, concealed in the base of a black coloured rexine trolley bag. The bag was in the possession of passenger Riyas Kuchanath Purayil, a resident of Haripuram, Kasargod. He too arrived at Mangalore International Airport on Friday at about 5.30 hrs by Air India Express flight IX384 from Dubai.
The total gold seized in both the cases is valued at Rs 28, 20,812. The operations were led by Praveen Vinod, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore International Airport. Further investigations are on.
