Miscreants set ablaze two shops

Bantwal : Two shops at Soorikumeru near Maani were gutted in a fire on March 9, Sunday night. It is suspected that some miscreants had set ablaze the shop belonging to Abdul Azeez.

The shop owner Azeez who is a resident of Soorikumeru was running the shop since the past 30 years and used to sell newspapers and bakery items. He used to sleep in the shop during night time and as usual  had downed the shutters and  slept in the shop on Sunday night too. The fire was first noticed at around midnight. Azeez who woke up on hearing the roof tiles getting shattered due to the fire, all of a sudden rushed out screaming. Locals came to his aid and  helped in dousing the fire along with fire service personnel from Bantwal.

Azeez who was shocked over the incident  has been hospitalised. The loss has been  estimated at nearly Rs 70,000 including  grocery products worth Rs 20,000 and a cash of Rs 8000.

Even a fruit shop belonging to Haneef, which is  located in front of Azeez’s shop   was damaged in a fire. There is no information about the extent of loss.

Vittal Police have registered a case.
