Udupi : Government hospital staff must treat patients approaching the hospitals for treatment with utmost courtesy and provide them the best possible treatment, said State Health and Family Welfare Minister.
He was presiding over a progress review meeting of the Department of Health held here on July 1, Monday during his maiden visit to Udupi district after taking charge as Minister.
While admitting that the health department was facing shortage of staff, the minister said the Government has already taken steps to appoint 350 doctors and 2500 D Group staff in an effort to mitigate the problems arising out of staff shortage.
District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr Ramachandra Bairi informed the minister that 658 Malaria cases had been detected in the district during the year so far. He also informed that the health department was taking all possible measures to sensitize the public on the preventive measures to be taken to check the spread of the disease. He also stated that there were no Dengue deaths this year.
Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj who also attended the meeting urged the minister to upgrade the facilities at the Udupi Government Hospital at Ajjarkad.
Deputy Commissioner Dr MT Reju, ZP Vice President Upendra Nayak, ZP Deputy Secretary Pranesh Rao and Health Department officials attended the meeting.
