Mangalore: With the rise in Malaria and Dengue cases in the city, the Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde S has planned to take strict action those who fail to adhere to the cleanliness norms.
Speaking to the media here on December 10, Tuesday, he said “ Under the Karnataka Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Act 2013 those habitually failing to segregate their garbage and indulge in littering, urinating, spitting in public, open defecating or committing other such acts in public areas can be penalised and even imprisoned.”
“As per the Act, littering, spitting or committing any acts of nuisance in public places will attract a penalty from Rs 100 for the first offence to Rs 500 for the second and subsequent offence. Any person who commits the offence for the fifth time would face imprisonment for a term which may extend to three months or be fined Rs 1,000 or both, the dumping of building waste would attract a fine of Rs 1,000 for the first time and Rs 5,000 for the subsequent offence”, he added.
The Commissioner said that the Mangalore City Corporation has already imposed fine on four hospitals and one commercial establishment, for not complying with the guidelines of the Corporation. He also notified vario0us other penalties for not abiding to the standards maintained by the MCC.
