Manipal: Some people have been dumping lot of soil, garbage and waste materials near the ground of Mannu Palla Lake in Manipal, alleged Trustee of Prasanna Ganapati Temple B Hariprasad Rai.
Rai who convened a press meet here on Thursday May 1, asserted that the lake and its surrounding area located on 100 acres was a picturesque place and the locals use the walking track constructed by the district administration which has been trying to develop the lake as a major recreation spot.
But some persons were dumping soil along with the garbage in the ground close to the Mannu Palla Lake since the past 20-30 days, he said.
He said the matter has been brought to the notice of Deputy Commissioner Muddu Mohan and Commissioner of Udupi City Municipal Council Srikanth Rao and other local councillors.
Threatening to launch a protest if measures are not taken, Rai said that there were four residential layouts in the area and nearly 1,000 houses. The residents of the area wanted the beauty of the lake and its surroundings to be maintained, he added.
Udupi City Municipal Commissioner Srikanth Rao stated that he had directed the health inspector of the area Anand to conduct random visits to Mannu Palla area. “If any person or truck was found dumping garbage, soil or other materials, the officer has been instructed to take legal action against them and even lodge a police complaint,” the Commissioner said.
