Karkala: An incident wherein some trouble mongers tried to malign a social worker for  no reason has been reported from the town of Karkala.

On May 29, Thursday evening, the  decomposed body of an unidentified person was found  in Anekere lake. Local social worker Ganesh Safaliga of  Kuntalpady had immediately  informed the fire service personnel.  Though the fire brigade arrived, they did not venture into the lake to get the body out as it was getting dark and moreover the lake was filled with slush.

At this juncture, Ganesh Safaliga after consultations with public raised Rs 11300   with a plan to   summon noted diving expert Jayaram Bhat of Sanoor and Shekhar of Hiriangady to get the body out of the lake.As per the talks held with locals it was decided  to cremate the body and then hand over  the cash to the two divers.  In fact Ganesh was at the spot till the cash was handed over and even the police were present.

However, by Friday evening, news was afloat that people who raised funds had taken to their heels  after the body was removed from the lake. All this is believed to be nothing but an attempt to malign the social worker.
