Mangalore : An accidental fire  in a vast open land  close by the St Lawrence Church at Bondel on February 1, Saturday caused panic among locals. The fire spread  very fast as the land was covered with shrubs and dry grass. The land reportedly belonged to the Cardinal Energy Company in Mumbai.

People passing by that area  who noticed the fire, passed on the information to the Fire Brigade. Though the Fire tender vehicles rushed to the place, they  could not reach the entire ground and locals extended a helping hand by bringing water in buckets.

The fire was contained after much struggle. The open land measured 40 acres and nearly 15 acres was engulfed by the fire.
