Lokayukta police raid at PWD, officials booked

Mangalore: The project management consultant supervisor Ratnakar, Tammayya Gowda, assistant engineer from Mangalore PWD, and Gopal Nayak, executive engineer were allegedly booked for an involvement in a scam during a raid at the public works department (PWD) on Wednesday March 19.

The Lokayukta police raid was held under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent, Umesh G Shet who verified documents related to the construction of the Bangalore-Jalsur state highway 85 that passes through Sullia taluk, and found that around Rs 22.05 crore has been used for road widening but the road has not constructed at all.  

After a thorough study, Umesh Shet said that many contractors are involved in this scam and he has filed a case against them, he also informed that the upcoming elections are leading to a rush in haphazard construction of roads. 

Verification of the documents was held in executive engineer Gopal Nayak’s office at the PWD.
