Bantwal: Mudunadagodu villagers under Panjikallu Gram Panchayat limits kept on consuming contaminated water for 6 days. Finally, one day, unable to bear the stench, they opened the lid of the tank, only to find the dead remains of a large python.

The water supply tank is built in such a way where half its body remains underground. The tank gets supply water from a nearby borewell and around 100 families use water from the same tank for drinking purpose, which is situated in an isolated location.

Few villagers had complained to the GP authorities about the bad odour in water. However, GP authorities overruled the villagers’ claim and presumed the problem may be due to the depleting ground water levels during summer where underground minerals might have gotten mixed up. Others thought the problem may be due to poor condition of water supply pipes which were mostly rusted.

When the situation worsened as days went by, they finally opened the lid of the tank to find the reason behind the stench in the drinking water water. To their amazement, they found the remains of a large dead python in the water tank.

Soon the villager’s emptied the stored water in the tank and cleaned the entire tank.
