Land mafia behind Sowjanya murder case, alleges Thimarodi

Mangalore:Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi,a Hindu leader has  alleged that land mafia and had played a role behind the murder of Sowjanya, a student of SDM College in October last year.

Speaking to reporters here on October 10, Thursday,Thimarodi who was earlier associated with Hindu Jagarana Vedike, also alleged that some powerful people were behind the incident.

Regretting the fact that Sowjanya’s parents have still not got justice,  Mahesh Shetty Thimarody said ” Sowjanya was raped and murdered elsewhere and then the body dumped at Pangala.” He further alleged that a school teacher was witness to kidnapping but was forced to remain silent. “It was due to pressure from influential forces that the police fixed a psychopath named Santosh Kumar in the  case,” he said adding though Kumar was mentally ill he had so far not harmed anyone.

He further alleged that the college where Sowjanya studied never allowed its students to protest against the incident. ” Sowjanya’s parents had complained against three persons  on January 10,2013, but so far police have not even enquired them,” Shetty alleged.

Continuing, he also charged ASI Yogish Kumar for trying to hush up the case and booking false cases against those who fought for justice in the case. “It was the ASI who had been to Sowjanya’s house and took her inner wear to plant it at the crime spot and also for hiding the note  with two phone numbers which was found at the spot. Even two investigation officers DySP Rudramuni and Jagadish have taken transfers,” he said.

Stating that there had been nearly 450 unnatural deaths,most of girls in Dharmasthala,he demanded a thorough probe into the same and also to hand over the Sowjanya case to the CBI.

Sowjanya’s father Chandappa Gowda, mother Kusumavathi,uncle Vittal Gowda were present at the press meet.
