Mangalore : Local People blocked the Kunjathbail-Kavoor road to protest against the delay in completion of the road work which was causing a number of accidents in the locality. The concreting of the road has not been completed even after one and a half year, residents said.

The protesting residents said that with the onset of the rainy season, people are going to get hurt when commuting. A 4th standard child, Lalitha from the government school was injured when an auto rickshaw rammed into her while she was crossing the road. She has been admitted to AJ hospital. Four months ago an elderly person met with an accident at the same spot and died. They complained that the “Area corporator K Mohammed never responded to any of our requests. He himself has issued stay order on the road work, as his land comes in the way and is not allowing anyone to take decision on the matter. Today when we started to protest, he came out to say that the road cannot be concreted. People are not ready to give their land to construct the road,” he added.
Its a fact that, that despite two schools, a govt and a private school, being located there, there are no footpaths on which the children can safely walk. Curiously, the the Privately owned Noble school belongs to the ward corporator, K. Mohammed.
The protesters demanded the presence of the DC at the spot even after MLA Mohiuddin Bava, tried to pacify them. Bava, however continued to hold talks with all concerned to resolve the issue, and persuaded the corporator to cooperate in the matter. After he agreed,Bava announced that work on the road would start in the afternoon and be completed as soon as possible. Marakada corporator Harinath and others were also present during the protest.
